TILG celebrates over 3,000 unique student encounters with Next Engineers Discovery programme

Over this academic year, our facilitation team have engaged over 3,000 times with aspiring engineers in Staffordshire schools in collaboration with Next Engineers and the Discovery programme.

With exciting challenges including Run Marble Run,Toxic Popcorn and Critical Load, Year 9 students have had the opportunity to engage with our team through hands-on engineering activities to expand their engineering understanding.  In addition to this, students have also developed the building blocks of Next Engineers: awareness, interest, engineering habits of mind, engineering identity and agency – key skills for our future engineers!

The Discovery programme is a fantastic opportunity for young people to explore future career opportunities within the engineering sector and provides them with a pipeline of further experiences for those young people who are keen in pursuing a career in engineering.
Liam Brookes Delivery Manager said, “It’s been a real pleasure working with so many young people in Staffordshire and opening their eyes to the engineering opportunities available to them for their future world of work.  Our aim at TILG is to challenge the way that young people are educated about their future and opportunities such as the Next Engineers Experience programme enable opportunities to further enhance their employability skills.  We’re delighted to be collaborating with Next Engineers and look forward to another exciting academic year engaging with the aspiring engineers in Staffordshire”.

Our delivery team have an incredibly busy summer period with further Next Engineers projects, including Engineering Camp, an intensive week-long programme for 100 young people held on our site in Stafford and further Engineering Academy sessions, a three year programme for those young people who are ready to equip themselves with the skills required to build an engineering identity and career.

The Next Engineers Discovery programme will continue through the 24/25 academic year and our diaries are now open for sessions in the Staffordshire area.
