The Challenges
The National Careers Challenge in partnership with NatWest Thrive offers a dedicated challenge per year group, each aligned to Gatsby Benchmarks. Each challenge is designed in response to our sponsor’s real, business-critical needs and your students will build the skills required for the world of work.
Since 2013, we have seen 600,000 students participate in the award-winning programme. The programme is delivered in our traditional facilitator-led model by our DBS checked delivery team who are experienced in getting the very best out of your students having delivered our challenges to 1000’s of schools already.
Air Products – Sustainable Town of the Future challenge
Year 7 – KS3
Considering the potential of Air Products gases, students will develop a concept for a Sustainable Town of the Future.Their new town should include a key employer working alongside sustainable transport links, housing and food production.
How will Air Products’ gases be used within this new town, how will this promote sustainability and how will teams persuade businesses and residents to relocate to their town?
British Airways – Future Airline challenge
Year 8 – KS3
Teams will explore the exciting world of International Travel to create a new subsidiary airline for British Airways that will sit alongside their CityFlyer and EuroFlyer brands. Students must consider who will use their airline, where it will fly and how they will ensure a quality service for their target customer, whilst keeping their airline sustainable and commercially viable.
NatWest – Start Local. Think Global Challenge
Year 9 – KS4
NatWest are committed to helping young entrepreneurs build businesses in their local communities, and developing the skills they will need for business start-up careers in the future. It is this ethos which has inspired this years challenge! In teams young people will work to develop a business idea that is inspired by the skills and heritage of their own local town or city. They will consider how they will promote their new business to the local community, plus how the business could be scaled up in the future both from a promotional and financial point of view.
Wickes – Wellbeing challenge
Year 10 – KS4
Wickes have posed not one but two challenges for our year 10 students this year! : In task 1 teams will identify an empty, disused or vandalised space within their school or local community and consider how this space could be re-imagined using Wickes products to promote inclusivity and physical, mental or emotional wellbeing. In task 2 students will develop a concept for an innovative new product or service that could be offered by Wickes to encourage more customers to take on a DIY project and shop in store.
